Meet Dr. Jay McDonnell:


     Dr. McDonnell is a board certified veterinary neurologist with more than 10 years of clinical experience. 

     Dr. McDonnell earned his veterinary degree (DVM) from the University of Missouri. He completed a master's degree (MS) in Veterinary Neuroanatomy at University of Missouri as well.  

    After 4 years of general practice in Missouri and Oregon, he began a three-year Neurology-Neurosurgery residency at Tufts University in Massachusetts and became board certified in Neurology by the American College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. He joined the faculty of University of Georgia, teaching in the hospital and classroom. In 2000, he became chief of Neurology-Neurosurgery at Tufts University. Since 2004, he has made his home and neurology practice in Maryland.

     At Tufts, he helped established the in-house magnetic resonance imaging suite, a brain surgery unit and minimally invasive CT-guided biopsy program.

     He has continued his work in the definitive treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors, CNS imaging, Chiari malformation and Wobbler’s disease.

     He continues as an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University.

     Most recently, Jay has joined the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine as a Consultant in Neurology.
